Title: Audio Technica AT-5040
Post by: GYMusic on November 01, 2012, 01:26:26 PM
I guess they'll be available January of 2013, unless someone gets a hold of one earlier.  I'm not claiming to be a mic designer, but something about a rectangular capture area for a condenser element doesn't make sense.  Help me out.

I have found it very hard to make assumptions about a microphone's performance from sources other than the actual listening.
I have contacted AT to get a tester.

Excellent!  I'll be awaiting your evaluation.

Pearl Microphones of Sweden have been making condenser mics with rectangular capsules for many years now, so it's not unheard of.

Sound on Sound just gave an in depth review in their Dec issue; you may want to take a look at.
