I was listening to a Cd of Madeline Adams. Shes uses mostly acoustic guitar. But on one of her tracks, she was throwing pennies in a jar. It made a cool unique sound. It beats the hell out of using a shaker or tamberine on tracks. Anyone have any other ideas on cool ways to have background rhythm in acoustic tracks. Never heard of madeline?

i've always liked the simple foot tapping on the fllor while tracking the acoustic part.
kick pedal on a cardboard box.
beer bottles being kick around on the floor
beer caps in your hand as a "shaker"
the unscrewing of a bottle cap (whiskey bottle in my case)
chain wallet shaking around.

Excellent Ideas man. I'll have to try some of those

haha might as well go all out like tilly and the wall and just use tap dancing for your percussion

I recorded a percussion track last week with three guys all playing "non-instruments." I played beat one by scraping a gooseneck on the Wurlitzer leg, hit a mic stand for beat two. The bass player hit the couch with a mallet on beat four. The drummer hit a brake drum with a drill bit on the and of four.
On a solo record I did years ago I did a whole piece called "found Sounds" which consisted of washboard, two office water bottles, nine brake drums and a kitchen sink (really).
