Folks-

A question about this. I place CD text into a listening copy for a client. There is often an issue in checking that it's right or even present.

Is there a simple app to see the text? At this point, I run out to my car to 'see' it, but this does not make the Composer, arranger, etc text available- just the artist, album and song titles.

Clients sometimes pop the CD into itunes, and then don't see the text (but sometimes they do, too). How does itunes interact with CD text?\

There is a script for itunes that is very convenient for importing the cd-text info from the cd. You'll find a link in the thread. I also use Toast (I'm on a Mac) to verify cd-text, but the version I have (9.0.7) only shows artist and song title info, not composer, etc.

Hi Mark,

My trick is Mac only unfortunately -

- Place the cd in the drive
- Open the Terminal (found in Applications)
- type "drutil cdtext" and you will se all cd text present on the disc.

While you're at why not verify the ISRC codes by typing "drutil subchannel"

Without wishing to sound condescending, it might be worth investing in a professional application as you are charging people money for your services. The printing of a disk report with all cue information, CD Text and ISRC should be a basic and standard procedure for a client as well as a vital QC control for yourself.

Here's a hint, if you have to start a thought with the phrase "without wishing to sound condescending", you're probably sounding condescending.

Regarding options for reading CD Text on PC -
I've been using Plextor Plextools, Exact Audio Copy, and Sonoris DDP Creator.

Mark,

You're a Pyramix user, no?

Insert the CD and choose 'Import' from the Project menu. Open the CD import window and go to it...

Once the CD TOC is read you'll see whether or not you have CD-Text on the disc. You don't have to actually import the audio on the disc, just read the CD-Tet and ISRC.
