Typical chain:
load in to DAW
DAW processing
digital->analog converter
analog EQ
analog Comp
further analog processing
analog->digital converter
further digital outboard processing(limiter etc)
back to DAW
further processing in DAW
digital->analog converter
passive volume control
loudspeaker
acoustically treated room

I have grown to respect PP for his use of irony to make a point. I don't read all of his posts, it's just too much, but once in a while for entertainment I get past the third line.

Hi!

Have to add metering options to the list! It can be distracting while tweaking, but it's sure very handy for checking. Peak meter, oversampled peak meter, kalibrated VU and phasemeter are perhaps the most important ones. An oscilloscope to do vectorscope, bitscopes and general signal tinkering is handy. Add spectrum analysis and you got most of it.

RME cards come with a great solution in the digicheck utility.

BTW, the CD error check in plextor burners Plextools software is another must have.

Finally, a SPL volume meter to check your physical monitoring levels.
