changing the capsule in a mic
« on: October 18, 2005, 05:18:16 PM »

How involved is changing a capsule in a microphone. Is there adjustments of any kind after installed or does it just work or it doesnt, Im just wondering if this is something that I could do myself or would it need to be left to an experienced repairmen

Only if it's an expensive mic, they're a bit elitist around there Wink

But the John Klett-Master Tech forum is full of people taking things apart, and I've noticed people in the Harvey Gerst forum seem to be into modding their mics.

Without knowing your soldering skills and understanding of electronics, no one can advise you on whether to attempt replacing a capsule. If it's a high end mic and you are having to ask this question in the first place, your best bet may be to get someone like Jim Williams to do it for you. Many condenser mic capsules are delicate devices and need to be handled with care.
