Did DC help write the Pass Labs manual?
« on: October 03, 2005, 11:25:33 PM »

So - I actually took Brad's advice (now why the heck would I do that?) and upped my power amp budget a little bit and found a used Pass Labs X250 power amp for cheap on Audiogon.  The thing is amazing - really powerful and ultra-clean - very nice and tight bass reproduction.

Anyway - reading through the manual I was struck by some occasional similarities to DC's posts in the very dry humor encasing pointed audio knowledge in the writing style.

Check out these gems:
"Do everybody a favor and try not to have shorted output cables."

"People are intersted in how long it takes for these amplifiers to break in.  It takes about an hour for them to warm up, and this is where we adjust them first"

"We prefer speaker cables that are thick and short.  Silver and copper are the preferred metals.  If you find any cable made of gold, please send me a couple hundred feet"

and my favorite:
"We have a general recommendation about interconnects, which is they should cost less than the amplifier"

Best regards,
Steve Berson

Hey Steve, if I may be so rude . . . what constitutes "cheap" for this amp?  I'm going to put up a pair of Martin-Logan electrostats in my new mix room as a "check" monitor system, and I need a better amp than the Adcom GFA535II I currently have sitting around.  (Get it?  "Currently"?  I slay me.  Need more coffee.)

Nelson Pass has a rather dry sense of humor judging from his web persona.
