What is LSB and why is it important

Does this mean least significant bit.
Can someone explain please.
What it is and its relevance.

Yes, it stands for least significant bit.  Its probably used most around here when talking about dither (i.e. the dither noise is added to the lsb (16th bit) before the bit depth is converted from 24 to 16 bits)
