CD vs DAT

Other than compatability with other facilities, is there any advantage of DAT over CD?

I would be willing to say, DAT is dead.  I think most facilities are more likely to import more audio from CDs than DAT.  Although, I still keep a DAT machine around just in case.

You can use DAT tapes over. I have hundreds of useless CDs, but can use all my DA tapes again. Eventually, I suspect some sort of loss, but none that I have noticed yet.

I like the speed of being able to load files from a CD, but the DAT still has a place here.

48K recording/playback
Timecode I/O (on some models)
9 pin control (on some models)
Punch-in recording
Portable field recorders...can't think of a CD equivalent
Re-use media...for a while anyway... Rolling Eyes
Jog/shuttle control (on some models)
Append extra material (tape length allowing) after the main programme
Re-numbering of Start ID's

Cheers,
Tim

Yeah, when i print mixes I print to Wave Lab or Sam, and to the Dat at the same time. Then I have a safety. Plus, folks still bring stuff in on dat sometimes so, It's still in use for me.
