I hate to further mess with your head, but after auditioning a number of converters, I ended up shelling out the extra $$ for the Lavry units.  If you ever do get the chance to hear them, you will regret buying anything else.

I am planning on getting the lavry blue da converter as well but wanted a stepped volume attenuator.  I currently have the passive volume control from NHT but it is not detented.  Is there anything similar to the NHT unit that is detented or do I have to go with coleman or cranesong ($$$) for this?

If you're looking for a relatively inexpensive premade monitor controller unit the Coleman Audio M3PH should do the trick for you.  I have the earlier and simpler Coleman PS1P and it works great.

Thanks Steve.  I had looked into M3PH but was looking for something a little less... robust, I guess.  Though I'm sure the mono switch and headphone amp would come in handy.

Looks like I either need to learn to solder properly or just shell out some more dough.

UPDATE:

Well thanks to you fine folks, I just went and ordered the 2 channel Lavry Blue from Noah at ProAudio Canada. He had one in stock and offered me a great price...and well...what's a few more dollars when it comes to getting the good stuff.

I'm going to miss the stepped volume control and HP output, but I'll simply need to make other arrangments in that dept....ah...it's only money after all.... Razz

The Lavry should be here wednesday....I can't wait to hear it!

Thanks for all the feedback to my quandry,

-Z-

Great to hear Zak,

Trust me you'll be a happy boy. Looking forward to hearing your feedback on them.
Nice work getting them through Noah as well. Always good to support the good guys Smile

Good point about the second set of D/A for the analog chain. I don't doubt that at some point that will become necessary too, but as long as I'm all "in the box", two decent channels will take care of my needs.

thanks for the input, I really appreciate it...

And when you do move out of the box, I recommend you look at the Cranesong HEDD. With the new DAC module and an already killer ADC, it makes an excellent D/A/D interface for "out of the box" analog processing.

For the time being, you could always use something simple like an NHT PVC volume control. It's not stepped but is balanced and works great as long as you keep the cable runs really short.

Just a temporary idea.

Beside Mytek and Benchmark I would also look at Lavry Black and Grace Design m902.

The Lavry Black isn not on Lavry website yet.
