Bob Dylan - No Direction Home: The Soundtrack
« on: September 01, 2005, 10:28:13 PM »

VERY tastefully done by M.Wilder.  A future collector's item.  Cool booklet too, incl 60's photos of Dylan with Columbia's M49s, U67s, KM56s.

Thank you, Thank you, Thank you.

It was a ton of work.  An I got to listen to more Bob than you could possible imagine.  Chris Shaw's mixes on Disc 2 are just unbelievable.  I'm convinced he's one of the old Columbia guys reincarnated.

If the Miles Davis complete set is any indication of how Mark aproached the Dylan cd. I'm sure it sounds as pure as what I imagine the original masters sound like.  Razz

Mark is one of the real good guys... now let's think about this. Mark does NOT have the reputation of being an "impaler" yet he has as wide a collection of clients as Vlado. So what conclusion must we reach about how much Vlado's clients are insisting that he "impale"?

I don't think you can reach any definitive conclusion BK. It would simply be hypothetical.

My theorem on it is that both individuals have their own methodology and attitude which attracts the clientelle they get.

Much as Vlado gets vilified and criticized I bet most of us here would love to have the kind of gigs he regularly gets and the prestige that goes along with that.

Mark is a shining example of how you can survive in the cut throat competitive world of working for a mutinational in that cauldron of NYC and still maintain  what purists would call "artistic integrity".

Two different styles of fighters here.....one street brawler.....one technical tactitian....BOTH with impressive records (no pun intended).

Hence my using the word "most" as opposed to "all".

I simply can't call a record "impressive" when the engineer ruins the sound of record after record by my favorite artists.

OK you may not like Vlad's style but he has an impressive clientelle list. Certainly better than I do or may even ever hope for.
