Pretty amusing idea,
an inevitable development,
Would love to give it a test spin for fun & see what extreme settings do,
I imagine some people will use it as a crazy effect on a remix somewhere that will be groovy,
I think the chances of it getting someone to sound like Elvis, Bono, Assley or Sinatra is about the same as the mic modeller getting an SM57 to sound like a U47,

I have to hand it to Antares though. At least they are not building yet another Neve mic pre clone/wannabe. For cryin out loud. Somebody is out there building a Quad 8 mic pre clone. Does anybody remember what that dog sounded like? What is going on? Soon somebody will be building an MCI JH416 mic pre clone. Just what we need. Where is my Peavey mic pre clone? Sorry, I'm ok now.

I'm not expecting too much out of this new Antares effect really.  From the way they hyped up that Kantos thingy (only reason I have it is because it came bundled with AT) you'd think it was this cool and different sounding effect, and I suppose that it does sound a little 'different' but it doesn't sound that good though.  Kind of like the Ashley Simpson of vocoder style effects, maybe?  Smile

FWIW I dunno about the original Q8 pre but I did try the clone and it sounds good!

Surely there is little here to "worry" about.

I expect this to be EVERY BIT as good as the Mic Modeler.

are you telling me bob dylan made it for having a great voice???!!!

Well, I guess that depends on what you mean by "a great voice", doesn't it.  I think Bob Dylan has a great voice.  I think Bryn Terfell has a great voice too, but not just sure about him delivering "Like a Rolling Stone" with any conviction.  The aforementioned baritone has by all accounts a great voice, although one doesn't hear that kind of voice anywhere else but in opera, leider, show-tunes etc.  I think that what Bob Dylan did/does requires great vocal talent.  You may not like his music, you may not like Bryn Terfell.  I like both.

Sorry, this has nothing to do with the topic, but I couldn't let that remark pass unchallenged.

i am sure it will suck, but auto-tune set to "forget it" mode sucks too, and it sells millions of records.  until people care about talent, nothing really cheesy is out of line.  they never will, they just want a dolly-face that sounds good and acts "cool".

OK, Ivan,

I can't tell if there's some joke in there or if you really tested it.  Like Steve, I would like to hear what people think about this thing in USE not in concept.

Surely someone has purchased one, yet?  I would try it myself, but, well... I don't use computers for recording.  Spill the beans, wontcha?

Oh,, Sorry.. No ,I have not tested it. I wont test it. I was making a joke that Went something like " I threw it in the water and it didn't  float."

I will never ever have a need for such a thing. I know some people think I'm a snob because of this but, that's OK, I like Music.

Snob.

Bukkake.

Antares.

Three of the scariest words anyone has ever uttered on an audio forum.

Sorry, my comment doesn't really help the person who wanted to know if anyone has tried this. Oh well.

Hey, just for the record. I know some really talented folks who use all that stuff and I've HAD to use auto tune and replace samples before myself but.... I wouldn't be able to live with myself if I didn't hack on these tools.

I surely do not mean to be hacking on the people who have to use them sometimes.,,,,, It was just a joke..

Surely you weren't taking my joke about 'snob - bukkake - antares' to heart?

I was laughing with you....

and I'm trying to work the word bukkake in as many places as possible. Kind of like Johnny Fever when Travis allowed him to say the word 'booger' on the air at WKRP  Cool
