Mastering Demystified policy - read before posting!
« on: August 18, 2005, 09:00:20 PM »

Because we are striving to make this place better all the time, I am no longer allowing anyone to post under screen names - if a person is unwilling to put his/her first and last name under a post (or as their username or in their profile), it's not worthy for this forum and will be deleted. This is a professional forum, there are many on the internet that will allow all sorts of behavior, but here I expect us to act in a professional manner. Well, most of the time, anyway...

In rare instances where good reason can be given, I will allow a poster to continue posting under his screen name after giving me their real name.

If you are reading this because your message was deleted, feel free to repost it adding your real name to the post or adding it to your sigfile.

Of course, all previous rules are still in effect - no personal attacks, etc. Keep it clean and professional.

I hope you will be aggressive about this. I can understand the desire to rant anomonously like mixerman but it's been a long time since I've seen anything very profound from an ananomous poster other than him.

People can rant ananomously on the MARSH board. Of course they run the risk of somebody ranting ananomously right back at them.

I will.

There will be occasional exceptions made, but they will be rare. If someone is unwilling to post their name with their comments, I'm not sure their comment has any merit at all - I stand behind everything I've ever said, even if I've changed my opinion on it - I said it with honesty at the time.

Also, as this is a new policy, it will take some time to inform all of the posters of it. Ater about a week I'm going to start deleting every post without a name somewhere...

Why would anyone that wants to participate in discussions, hide who they are? The problem is the trolls that pop in, nobody knows who they are and they don't worry about the manner in which they post, often stirring up trouble and not answering questions brought to them to explain their voodoo claims. I personally feel that anonymous posting gives some people free reign to post any cockamammy thing they want, with no recourse for their actions.

Way to go, Brad. All forums should be this way. Why participate in something anonymously? What would be the point?

Off the top of my head, Pingu, NoWo and Button. BAB is known to you, but is anonymous to everyone else, which is a little strange.
Not trying to point fingers, just wondering why some can bend the rules.

All three have their names in the profile.

I have approved his anonymity for special reasons, which I stated may be possible for special circumstances in the initial post.

No offense, but I'm on this like crazy, deleting posts and warning people all the time. No need for you to be the forum cop, I'm taking care of it.

I guess I misinterpreted; I thought the names had to be in the post, thus my understandable annoyance at these alleged miscreants.

I highly support this policy. Having run a few forums in the past, I've come to regard this as a form of public assembly where we all can speak.  Doing so in a completely anonymous fashion is sort of like standing up in public with a bag over ones head...

I also respect Brad's willingness to consider special circumstances. When I worked for S..(large multinational music company)  there were somewhat restrictive policies in my division regarding public discourse.  I could see both sides of the issue and am certain that there are others who are now in the same situation.

Greetings to all. My name is Scottie Hall and, i just registered today. I whole heartedly agree with this policy. I already like this board and, i just got here. I have posted on Garageband.com with questions and, answers to things I have read and have had people with little audio education reply back to me as if I were trying to humiliate them in front of there parents. Some of the rippers would not aknowledge who they were for at least a rebuttle of the facts, so yes I love this policy. Honesty and, itegrity means everything to me. I hope to make some new friends and, learn some great things in this forum. I have some questions that i have tried to get answers to and, cannot find the right person with that knowledge. Thanks for the forum and, all of the Professional people i have seen on your member list.

well done. I agree that if you have something to say, you should be confident enough to back it with your name.

OK, I didn't want to start a new topic for this.

This forum is great and has a minimum amount of gear-wanking.

Over and off.

Thank you - it's you guys that have made this forum less about gear and more about the practice of mastering - which is precisely what it should be.

It's sad so many mastering forums are all about gear - you'd think the gear was more important than learning the craft!
