cursed clients?
« on: August 17, 2005, 07:08:18 AM »

you guys ever have one particular client(s) who whenever they are in, it's like the world is coming to an end?
i have this one band who seem to witness repeated computer lock-ups, hd crashes, lost tracks, etc etc. EVERY TIME THEY ARE BOOKED.i did sessions for the last 4 days (with oter people) straight with no problems, but then last night, BAM- 2 lock ups and my dog ran away during the session with these guys. (he came back).

i guess thats what i get for jumping to 10.4.2 AND DP 4.6 in the midst of projects.

anyway -  anyone else see anything like this? i may have them wear garlic necklaces next time.

Bleeding edge hurts.

I'm a DP guy and i'm running rock solid in 4.6.

i love 4.6 so far - but things like:

pete: "that phrase is pitchy... let's hit it with this new fancy pitch editting tool."
client: "OK Cool!"
pete: "watch this! *grabs pitch segment and drags to target pitch*"
DP: "the hell with this... i'm out!" *quits*
client: "?"
pete: "i .... uh....."

are a bit annoying. especially when i work fine for days prior.

I haven't used it much yet but i did have the issue of it not working on a track until i duplicated it. It's definately a cool way to work out harmonies quickly with amateurs.

Have you checked into unicornation?

yeah - i'm on the 'nation all the time.
(not neccessarily posting).

last night my G4 overheated (i hope thats what it was) for the first time. Just shut off all of the sudden. Ever see that happen?

i hadn't - but of course it had to happen with this poor guy doing a vocal track. converters sent this 10K tone into his mellon instantly.

YIKES!!!!!!!!!!

i probably would have taken a baseball bat to that computer if it blew out my ears with a 10k tone.

i've never seen a mac just shut down with no warning ever.

in fact, i've never seen a PC do that either.

95% of my clients do not attend sessions, so i don't typically have any bab juju in the room, other then myself.

Never had one shut down except before i learned that my on off switch on the mac display was so sensitive that every time i reached for the phone it would shut down.

Conversely, my G4 is so hard to turn on that several people, including myself, have thought it was busted the first time they tried to fire it up.

You have to angle you thumb nail just the right way to get it to boot up. Once you're used to it it's pretty simple.

so, what i'm getting from this is, Macs are like cats and dogs, they all come standard with their own quirky personalities.

Pete's doesn't take kindly to one particular band, Kevin's is a bit shy around the monitor, and Liam's only likes a few people using it.

any other quirky macs out there.

My mentor pushed the big silver button (uh, speaker) on his G4 and couldn't figure out why it wasn't working. Now the apple startup sound is like the first chord from a Megadeath song.
