URS plugins
« on: July 20, 2005, 12:59:00 PM »

Hey all

Has anyone used/heard these plugins www.ursplugins.com

they are meant to be based on classic analog eq's such as neve and pultec

compared to some of the EQ's i tested in one of my prev posts they sound a lot better but i'll test a bit more to see how well they do.

they prob don't sound as good as the analog counterparts but i had not heard of them before.

cheers Alex

I bought them and love them.  They work where I expect them to when I'm mixing.  API on drums, Neve on guitar, Fulltec on Bass, etc.  The Graphic Neve is really nice on snares.  I couldn't really see them being used in mastering, mainly because they don't perform well when very high levels are going through them.  They are equipped with level trims which help, but that's not something you would really have to mess with the same way with their analog counterparts, and quite often you'll want to overdrive the analog units for that extra something-something.  They do have demo's available.

I recently bought the API 550b URS plug-in.  I think it's fantastic during mixing, especially on drums.  Can really open things up.  I don't think it's up to mastering tasks.  Ever time I've tried it acoss the mix for a quick adjustment, I've removed it.

I recently compared it to a real 550b.  As you would expect, they are not the same but they give you a similar "flavor".  Good analog EQ is...  well, good analog EQ.

The big plus about the plugin is that it is adjustable in .1dB steps and the hardware is 2dB steps.

Look, I know it's mean.  But sometimes the end justifies the mean.

You can get the APIs in 0.5 or 1 dB steps...

interesting responses

I've been listening to them on mixes particualry the n series and the fulltec and so far they seem to be fulfilling my criteria as what i was lacking was nice eq that would colourise the rest of the frequencies whcih some of the the other ones i had tested were doing. and they seem to work well with the rest of what i've got

i've got some nice transparent ones but it was the character
ones i was lacking

i'll see what happens

Thanks Alex, though that's disappointing cos the Sonalksis is pretty expensive!  When I have time this weekend I'll try and demo the URS.

Cheers

I am also curious about how let's say the n series sounds compared to a real neve 1084 or the fulltec compared to the real thing. i find these plugins as being the best available in the native/vst field but never heard a real neve or pultec (i even don't think we have in Romania such a thing) so i'm very curious.
