Anyone in here like the RE15?
« on: July 23, 2005, 11:25:05 AM »

I know Chessparov does, but does anyone else? I have seen Bob Ohlson talking about it as an ultimate vocal mic too.

Does anyone else find uses for this older mic?

Yes yes.  Great dynamics.  Anywhere you would use a 57 or 58 or 421, try the 15.  I love them on the small onboard speaker of a Wurli, too.  Can be great on snare.

Sorry to take this tread off topic, but just humor me...
I've always wanted to mic my Wurli (140b) speaker!!  I usually DI the headphone output, but I've yet to try miking it.  Any suggestions?  Besides the afformentioned RE15

Cheers

I've had one in the bottom of my cord box for a long time now, just never used it much before.  I did have to record a fiddle last week and came across Bob Olhsson's sugjestion about it and it worked out great! Thanks's Bob, BTW.  The client and me are very happy with the results!  I'm going to start looking for places to try it out!  It's nice to "get a new mic" to try without having to buy anything!

I've just mastered some stuff done in Nashville in 1975 of local singer songwriters (who later became well-known) recorded direct to a Nagra 1/4" deck with only 2 RE-15s and I was literally blown away by now natural, present, and large sounding the recordings were.

Yeah, before starting this thread, I bought one on eBay and was lucky enough to get a really good deal of only $56. It is in almost new condition and sounds wonderful from the little bit of testing I did with it. I was just seeing what everyone else used it for.

I want to get another sometime for stereo applications, but for now I will baby this one and use it a great deal I suspect.

Thanks for the replies,

The big problem with the RE15 and RE16 is that their look doesn't inspire confidence in insecure singers.
