Anyone tried the Apex 210 ribbon mic?
« on: July 13, 2005, 04:55:00 PM »

Please forgive me if this has been discussed, but I didn't see it mentioned.

Just wondering if anyone knows anything about this mic?

Thanks.

I tried it at a music store. It might be useful as a guitar amp mic. With some tuning (maybe different ribbon tension or damping) and other work (maybe a good transformer) it might be actually ok. It might work on some people's voices or some instruments. That's my humble opinion, anyways. It's certainly not a Royer or AEA or RCA, but it's not as bad as many Chinese LDC (or especially SDC) mics.

I have two of them. Not stellar, but very usable mics. I started with one, just because they were sooo cheap, and went back for another right away. Some minor modifications can make a more open sounding mic. YMMV
