I have never noticed WAV files working any slower on Macs compared to AIFF files in Pro Tools and TC Spark XL. I've never used Logic so I can't comment on that.

got a data cd with 3 tracks to master.
no file extensions.
called the studio.
the engineer there said they were AIFF 24-bit 44.1 mixdowns.
I put .wav file extensions on them and opened in Wavelab;
viola, 24-bit 44.1 mixdowns with no problems.
