JJ I can't believe you have those mics that close to the strings of that piano! Does it sound weird or just look that way?

It's the angle.  They are perhaps 8-10" from the strings.  About equal height with the lid edge.  They are rather close for proximity effect.  I'm going for the same sound as A/B mic'ing the strings, but without phase cancellation.

DO you record it to two tracks, mixed? or three tracks (like a girly)? {g}

Two tracks, of course!  Sheesh.  Actually, it's not dark whatsoever.  The M55K omni really has a such terrific off-axis  high end response.  I generally use the Vac Rac tube EQs in the signal path, but it's generally to push a little 3khz and maybe pull out some low end so it doesn't fight with the bass.  I'll post a sound file at some point.  They said I was crazy, but  I'll show them!
