MXL 990 as drums overhead

is anybody as experience using MXL 990 as drums overhead,

They weren't awful. A little brighter than I'm used to (Oktava MK-012s usually) but since there is no pad you may need an external on. I was just kissing 0 in Sonar on the record which is WAY too hot IMO but it didn't sound bad so I let it go.

I would agree, they are a little bright but usable for sure. I have used them for live recording and they did a reasonable job.

They aren't bad...especially for the price.  If you have them (often sold together with the 990), you probably ought to give the 991's a shot in that application.
