questions about "stability" and some other things
« on: May 11, 2005, 11:03:49 PM »

Chris Walla,

First off, I absolutely love DCFC.  One of my top three favorite bands ever, next to Radiohead and Smashing Pumpkins.  When people say that there isn't any new good music going on, I instantly refer them to Death Cab to prove them wrong.

Anyways, needless to say, it's such a joy to have you on the board.  I am getting in late on this, but I hope you're still around to answer questions.

For the drums on the breakdown of "Stability," is that an artificial reverb, or a natural room sound (either through tracking or an echo chamber)?  I'm talking about the drums that start at 3:15.

Similarly, the drums on "We Laugh Indoors" - those also sound like a big wooden tracking room or a nice echo chamber reverb.

Is that a natural reverb?

I'm also curious about the vocal chain you use for recordings.

Do you ever mix digitally, or do you use mostly outboard gear?

Thanks for your time,

John Shryock
