I’ve just bought a RADAR 24 and need to re-cable the studio. Bearing in mind that the bank account is now almost empty due to the RADAR purchase, can anyone give me a sonic reason not to buy 4 Behringer patchbays – and if so, can you provide a similarly priced alternative option?

I had all kinds of problems with entry level patch bays like the ReAn(?) and DBX.  Build quality the same as the Behringer as far as I could tell.  Noisy, static problems, noisy when inserting and removing jacks, and mechanical failures here and there.

Anyhow, when I installed my RADAR I went for refurbished ADC longframe bays and I've had no problems.

For one thing, there are a lot less connectors involved and that alone seems to provide at least a theoretical advantage.

Try to find some used long frame bays.  They shouldn't be that expensive.

I've got 3 of the Neutrik (~US$100) patchbays, and although they seem to work OK, they don't really inspire a lot of confidence... a step up from the Behringers...
