Billy Idol
« on: April 29, 2005, 11:30:36 AM »

The band I'm working with is opening for Billy on the mainstage here tonight at Sunfest. I'm ecstatic. The guys are all gonna be nervous. They've played with big acts before but c'mon...it's Billy Idol!
Should be an awesome show...Charles Dye is going to run FOH for the boys, so you know it'll sound nice.

They just did an overhaul on their website feel free to check it out.

I'll tell you tomorrow how it went.(if anyone's interested)

Steve played for Billy at SXSW in Austin a month ago.  He's probably still touring with him.  And yes, he is quite a guitarist.

Still him...and still a bad ass.

Billy's set was really good, although he did chant the "get laid get fucked" thing during Mony Mony. Very lame.

Saw Sum 41 the next day...those little Canadian bastards can rock. They are a guilty pleasure of mine.

I auditioned as guitarist for Generation X, his band before he went solo... I lasted about 40 mins... did pretty well so my co auditioners lined up in the room told me. but I was a shit lead player and the previous cat was a Mick Ronson nut, so that cooked my goose... Still. it was a lot of fun, Billy was in my face with the mic making up lyrics as we jammed punky / chuck berry / pistols type stuff... They guy I was trying to replace, Derwood, was at my school, a year above me..

Hope it's a great gig!!

Hmmmm... as a gearslut, I wonder if they will be using the new Digidesign live desk the VENUE... just curious...any idea? That would tie in well with Charles Dye doing the live sound....

I saw Top Gun at the theater when I was 6.  Steve Stephens changed my life that day.

Nice production, dude.  What mic / preamp did you use on the vocals?  Where did you do drums?

Drums were done at the White House (now called Two Monkeys) on Music Row in Nashville. Incredible room for drums, complete with cascading wooden tile ceiling. Gotta thank my recording engineer, Jeremy Hunter(best kept secret in Nashville) for those sounds, of course it doesn't hurt having Charles Dye mix them either, but even he was saying how he loved receiving those tracks.
Can't remember which set up for vox, I can find out though. I'll let you know.

Thanks.
