My favorite ber is Castle Lager, its South African and is not possible to get in the states (embargo). tho it was bought by miller or somebody like that a few years ago. thats what i drink out of the country.

Here, usually Stella Artois or Oranjeboom (dutch)

and hoegarden is delicious with a sunday brunch.

Indeed, if you haven't tried it, Dogfish Head's IBA (Indian Brown Ale) is worth it's weight in gold, err, no, life...

We Aussies are reasonably skilled at beer brewing and consumption. Contrary to popular belief it's not all Fosters. In fact the Fosters you may have tried has little resemblance to the local brew. It along with Victoria Bitter and Carlton Draught are like the Molson Ex and Labatts Blue of Australia.

If you get a chance try

Cascade Premium
Boags Premium
Red Back

And for a lovely drop from New Zealand

Steinlarger.

And Guiness is great if you're into stout...

And after  those tyh xeww2 2kqj j3eol2qjbdfn2qk2qklj3bwdbik2q3jubwibfb 2bf '[

OOO.

I forgot about the Steinlager! We can't get it here anymore like we used to. The distribution company doesn't bring it around anymore. It's good stuff though. The only beer from New Zealand that I know anything about. Are there any others?

Wow...buddy (John Ralston-see prev. posts) just got back from tour with a load of different beers from New Belgium Brewery. Have to admit the 1554 was bad ass.

i've been into porters and stouts pretty heavily recently.

breckenridge makes a vanilla porter that's amazing.

and the deeper into the stout world i travel, the more i'm loving imperial stouts.

old rasputin imperial is killer.

Did someone say beer?  Rolling Eyes

On a warm sunny day I love a nice glass (or ten) of Hoegaarden or Raaf Witte or Blanche de Brugge, for regular drinking I like Grolsch, Jupiler, Stella Artois. For a bit more serious drinking I like Duvel.

My favorites are the trapist beers like Westmalle Tripple, La Trappe Quadrupple, Orval, Chimay or stuff like Maredesous, Grimbergen, Gulden Draak, Hoegaarden Grand Cru.

To be honest the list just goes on and on and on. Not so long ago, there where arround 9000 breweries in Belgium. At the time there were 9 million inhabitants. That is one brewery for every thousand inhabitants and each brewery had 6 or 7 different brews.  Belgians know how to enjoy life. Very Happy

Unfortunately most of them have been bought up by the big beer holdings.  Crying or Very Sad

Anyway, my dad was in the beer industry for half his life. He is now retired but still does guided tours to the Timmermans brewery in Belgium (where he lives). I think that might have rubbed off on me just a tiny little bit.  Rolling Eyes

if i ever come to belgium, would you take me on a "beer tour"?

some of the best beers i have ever had were from belgium.  that country KNOWS beer.

i have promised myself two trips i will take in my life.

1.  i will visit greece and experience a small portion of my heritage

2.  i will do a beer tour of belgium.

i think blackwood will be joining me for that trip.

LOL. You wish! Everyone learned it from the Czechs. They invented beer.

Sure can do.  Smile I live in the Netherlands at the moment but Belgium is just a short train ride away.

Belgians have beer in their veins instead of blood.  Laughing

Why, a beer tour around Belgium? I did that this summer, on a bicycle:

http://dedanko.blog.com

Visited all the Trappist monasteries and lots of other places such as micro breweries and so forth. I actually biked around the entire friggin' country for six weeks. Good thing it's very small.

For what it's worth, it seems beer was first made around the Egypt area, although the Czech people came up with the pilsner type many thousand years later.

Some world class stout's would be Bell Expedition Stout, and from Belgium I'd say Dolle Special Export Stout from de Dolle and Hercule Stout from Brasserie Ellezelloise are the very best.

Nothing beats beer from Belgium, imho. YMMNV

Cheers!
