Songwriting Thingy
« on: April 27, 2005, 07:53:47 PM »

Looks like the original thread is locked so I'll ask here.  Is this for "indie rock" only?  Can I take this beat and apply a R&B or other style and enter it?   Depending on what the tempo is and what the drums are doing I might do anything with it.

One thing for sure though...  it won't be rock.

I'm going to download the files so let me know.  Thanks.

you have to follow the rules, and those are the only rules.

genre and style were not part of the rules........

here they are again, which might present problems for programming.

1.  you can not edit the drum take to alter the arrangment

2.  you can not edit the drum take for tempo

3.  you can not sound replace any of the drum sounds.

if you can write a tune around the drum tracks using those three rules, then have at it.

i already know of one person using some serious gates and various other things to warp these sounds pretty insanely.....he's not sound replacing......he's just going nuts treating what i gave him.

I played my basics for my assistant the other night after tracking some stuff; he gave me a look, asked me if i was sober and then proceeded to say he was scared to be around me after hearing it.

That's what i get for playing keyboards.

Mine just flat-out rocks in parts--these drums were an absolute pleasure to work with--they sound great (your playing J.?).  I've got some creepy, dissonant stuff in there too...

If I can finish up some vocals, mine will be done.  I'm just having the worst time decided on lyrics.  I'm horribly picky at this sort of thing.  That's why I usually leave that junk to my singer in my band--he's good...

I'm not sure I want to give it to J. yet, though.  Might give him ideas for his own!

hahahahahahaha

um, my tune is done, mixed, and ready to be posted.

i was done before you all got the drum tracks.

it's not me playing the kit.  it's the drummer in the secret club.
