JJ blair lots of funny stuff in your posts...i enjoy the humor.  I have to go back to the Supertramp/Steeley Dan thing for a minute...sorry if this is old news, but it waited 30 years to make it to this forum so I am not too concerned...

Steeley Dan is IMO so much more of a cool vibe than Supertramp that I was sitting there reading that post incredulous.  I don't know any of them personally and I think i wouldn't necessarily hang with any of them, but that doesnt impact the jazz chord and compositional brilliance that comprises a Steeley Dan track from the Aja album.

Supertramp stuff reminds me of a bunch of twits riffing and running around with poofy hair.  They had some good tunes, but the whole thing was too drama for my taste.  They would have done a nice job backing up Cyndi Lauper.  They fit her style better.

CL producer...i think you did a great job with her trax and i love GJWTHF.  But comparing Steely Dan to a castrated version of Supertramp is laughable IMO.

Actually, I've heard A&R people complain about multiple band members singing like it's a bad thing.  Something about "What if two different singers sing two different singles? How will people know to recognize the band?"

hmmm...should John sing lead or should Paul sing lead...gotta choose just
one, both of them singing lead could NEVER wurk..... Laughing

On second thought I chose my words carelessly.
In order to be "castrated" they would have to have had balls at one point.

I stand corrected.

Are you being funny, or just bitter?    Is there a story involving one of them and a former girlfriend of yours that you're not telling us?

I do find it a bit amusing that some feel the need to jump in and pile on about how much they don't like it.  There are a lot worse albums that have been made.  Those kinds of comments feel a bit like low-brow snobbery to me.

yes yes i agree 110%---

it's like the old tired tape vs. digital rap. i personaly am very fond of the dan and their skills as musicians/songwriters/craftsmen blah blah. seems like the monday morning armchair quarterbacks have an axe to grind or don't have anything better do but bitch about a band that has sold more records/tapes/cds than probably anyone in this forum. besides who else could make guns drugs gambling and prostitution, maybe teen girl or two, oops, sound so sweet in the super market.

"I shot my old man back in Oregon-"

Does anybody hear remember Oregon?

There's some cojones in there. And some cheese.

Why do people get so worked up about the Steely D? I'm thinking it's at least as much because of self-important cheeseballs basking in their too-hip glow- I know it was for me.

I think I prefer my recollection to the real thing, but they got some good tunes into my head and I enjoy them there from time to time.
