Have any of you tried the MXL V77 on piano?
I am curious about your impressions.

I've never tried the V-77 on piano, but it's a very neutral sounding mic, so it might sound pretty good.

I did, the V69M on the bas side, the V77S on the discant side.

I'm quite happy with that sound, round and warm with plenty of detail.

Do you have any samples of that recording that you could post? (mp3s maybe?)

I can't let you hear something for the recordings aren't mixed yet. I have a grand piano and for pop music I have two PZM's on the lid permanently.

For recordings where the piano is important I use a Neumann M149 on the discant and a V69 or V77 on the bass side. This gives me the nicest sound so far.

But I was recording a singer/songwriter (male) with a very nice voice, so I used the Neumann on vocals and the 69 and 77 on the piano in an ORTF placement right behind the hammers ar some 10" above the strings.

And although the V77 isn't as nice as the M149, it's a very nice and rich sound.
