(if you don't HAVE any creative flow then tambourine isn't going to help... even marraccas can't save you there <g>)

Say, how about.... more cowbell then?

Cheers,

"I've got a fever, and the only prescription is more cowbell!".

I tried to find the video on the net, but it looks like they've made everone remove it, probably by legal threat.  It is available on two for sale DVD's, SNL: Best of Christopher Walken and SNL: Best of Will Farrell, however.  Anyone who has not seen this:

"Gotta Have More Cowbell" is ESSENTIAL viewing for anyone in the music industry!

You know, I was once writing up some audio-related skits, only to see this and realize that SNL has already written the best of them all.

Link worked fine for me. SNL does it yet again. Christopher Walken as a real record producer? I wouldn't argue with him.

Great link Chris!

Here are some of my excerpted favourites:

"...the world's first electric cowbell..."

"...may be the last cowbell you'll ever buy..."

"...Thousands of hours of dedicated research and development have resulted in striking cowbell models with all the character and depth of the beloved originals..."

And the very best thought of the day:

"...Hold a world class cowbell collection in the palm of your hand!"

Click on the listenable samples...be sure to listen to every last one of them...awesome!

I did download it, but it won't play on a Mac as far as I  can tell...the download was some sort of a windows-thing.   I have seen  it, of course, but don't have it.

Do you or anyone have or know of a Mac compatible version?

The funniest thing about that skit is not too long ago I met David Lucas, who was the producer for Blue Oyster Cult and actually PLAYED THE COWBELL ON DON'T FEAR THE REAPER!!  When I mentioned the skit, he said he had never seen it, had no idea about it!

Terry

You can install the OSX version of Windows Media Player to play it.  Alternatives exist as well:

I just played the clip with it no problem.

'I have a fever and the only prescription is More Cowbell, baby!'  Some of the cast look like they are about to explode after that line.  Jimmy Fallon actually does lose it.

Just double clicking the link & it plays from Windows media player no problemo,

Is Jimmy Fallon the drummer (?) - he seems to start cracking up once he views 'Gene' from the front with his exposed gut etc..

Great skit,

After having a bummer of a week with friction on the work and family front, I think this is the first belly-laugh I've had all week.

Indeed!

Thanks!  Very Happy

The RadMonkey site was created by the co-author of our upcoming Beatles studio book, Kevin Ryan.

He's a VERY clever guy; great writer, excellent producer and artist, also a graphics wiz - see how "real" the cowbell site looks. And I do love a sense of humor...

Odlly, I just saw BOC this week. I see EVERY show they do around here. I gotta say - they LOOK so old and "not cool", but they REALLY REALLY REALLY REALLY do a great show.

The skit is making fun of Sandy Pearlman who absolutely HATES cowbell with a blue passion.

BTW... if you ever get a chance, check out the "Space Team Electra album Sandy produced... I think it's one of the THE finest records to have come out by any artist in the last 5 years... as always... YMMV
