Sounds good.  Everyone encode your mp3 files at the rate you're most comfortable with.

No..please don't do that. Send me the disks as first instructed. I'll encode all the mp3's here..all at the same bit rate.

If you guy's wanna e-mail mp3's to each other...then be my guest Smile, but I'd still like the original disks.

Thanks for the poll Brendan...that's great!

Nice mix Mark.  I like the arrangement edits and the sounds and balances are really nice.

I just dropped my mixes in the mailbox across the street, exactly as you said in the email, Randy:
- 1 stereo interleaved 16bit .wav,
- and a 24bit  SDII mix.

Also,

I like the idea of listening to the mixes and rating them, BEFORE we all know who did what. Keeps it objective, if you know what I mean.

Randy, good work so far, I really enjoyed this. I think it actually made me a better mixer, just knowing who-all I was going up against.

I can see your point.
But a good mix is a good mix, no matter who does it.

BTW, thanks for the feedback.

I find that the arrangement of the song is more important than the actual mix. No matter how good the mix is, if the flow of the song isn't working, then everything else is a waste of time.

I felt that the intro was lacking in the sense that it didn't set up the overall feeling and vibe of the song. To me, the focus needed to be on the vocals, and the weird drum pattern was too distracting.

I created the loop by taking the a very small section at the very end of the piano track. It sounds like someone getting up or closing the lid on the keys. I boosted it up, added some reverb, then looped the section.

I found a bit of piano that would work nice looped under the chord progressions, and to me it set up the overall feeling of the song better.

I also found the guitar instrumental after the first chorus redundant, and I wanted to get back into the verse quicker, so I cut that as well.

Then, I found that the "epic" section had no impact, so I put in aproper break. Cut the vocal, and timestretched the word "confused" and the " But not alone" section of the vocals.
I also lost the "Lalala's" because I found them too cutesy for the song.

I also was annoyed by the inconsistent rimshot, and used one of the rimshots that sounded good, and pasted it overtop of the others. I also did that with a couple of weak snare hits as well.
And cut out a snare hit here and there all-together, as they didn't make sense to me.

True, and I wasn't singling you out for criticism with that, Mark.

But I have noticed how people have a tendancy to "hear things" in a mix as soon as they know what gear was used, or who did it.

I didn't think you were singling me out.

And I can see your point as far as "hearing things".

Nice work henchman.  Don't forget about the losers who were to slow to get in on the contest, we'd like to hear the mixes too Confused  We need to do this again, so I can get in on the action.

Thanks. I wasn't quite sure what to make of the "Twilight Zone' remark from Pricey.

Everyone will..after the contest is over I'll find somewhere to post the mp3's of the mixes so the "public" can all hear them. We'll do a thread about the mixes too...but I wanna get the "contest" out of the way first. Get the votes in..you know.

Eric,
I'm glad! It's doing similar things for myself. I really enjoy this and am glad we're all doing it. Thanks to everyone for your time in taking part in this..it's working out better than I expected.
