proof....
« on: January 28, 2005, 10:23:24 AM »

the subject of "how do i get work?" "how do i network?" seems to be a recurring theme around here.

last night, on a whim i went to see a show.  a good friend rolled into town, and we headed out last minute.

i connected with about 6 people i haven't seen in a while, and every one of em talked to me about recording.

i've been really busy lately with random things.  a few sessions here and there, and a lot of parenting, taking care of my life type stuff.

i've got to get back out to the clubs and just hang out again.  i totally forgot how easy it is to network and get work just by showing up and having a few beers

and hey, i can write all that off as marketing/advertising.

yep - totally.  pretty much every bit of work i've ever done as been a result of just shooting the shit at parties or at bars/shows and stuff.  almost everything for me comes from not seeking it out - kinda being out there so that people know you're an option when they need it done.

it's kinda like when you're single and trying to pick up a chick at a bar, it's nearly impossible cuz they can smell the desperation.  but when you're not at all looking for action, you suddenly notice that the girl you've been talking to wants to make out.

I'm not in a huge market so most of my work comes via referal... it does help to seal the deal by dropping by the show after you get an inquiry. that's how i spent friday night. We start the album on the 10th...

I'm also fortunate to have other studios sending work my way because they don't have the space, don't do bands, want a real B-3 or whatever.
