Racks? euro danner B1? tuchelstecker?
« on: January 24, 2005, 08:57:40 PM »

Hi Oliver and everybody,
another newbie question:
I decided to go for some faders and some cards on ebay.
It is supposed to be really nice vintage stuff, and not too expensive compared to API NEVE etc.
But I need racks to put the cards in. So which racks should I get, and where can I get them? Most of them have the matching Tuchelstecker. And what about PSU? (I've written down what I found out sofar)
Right now the following modules are coming my way:
NTP 177-400 Aussteuerungsmesser (? maybe b1 ? 24V PSU)
4x LAWO W990 Active faders (Telefunken 19 inch rack danner size www.vintagecity.de 24V PSU)
2x NTP 179-400 Limiter (EURO-card 100 x 160 mm 32 pol DIN Messerleiste)
1x LAWO V975-3 Summing amp (like the Neumann V475-2,(EURO-card 100 x 160 mm 32 pol DIN Messerleiste))

Last year I bought a rack with three "Uptide" SSL busscompressor replicas
They came in a rack with 32 pin slots, but the cards are roughly 130 mm high and 145 mm long. And they don't have the funny thing that is on top of the NTP limiters: ( http://cgi.ebay.nl/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&category=32 78&item=3777466016&rd=1&ssPageName=WDVW&tc=p hoto)

So, again I ask your help: What racks should I get, and where, and which PSU?
Can I use any PSU with 24 V and 500mA? Can I use one PSU for different racks?
And how should I wire the LAWO faders and amp to make a small summing mixer?

Thank you for the big help

Hello Reptil,

all Tuchel (owned by Amphenol) connectors you can get via any Amphenol dealer world wide. The Siemens 31 pin connector is better known as 31 pin Eurocard connector and is a standard items at every good stacked electronic distributor.

Power supplies, Power One ore Power Ten, work quite good, 24V 1A should work fine for up to 5 or 8 modules (depending on the current)...

Racks? There are several companies that supply them, from very expensive to good priced... Talk to other users and compare prices/quality...

Regarding Lawo, they are op amp knock offs that just share pin layouts and designation of the vintage stuff, sound,- built,- and component quality is quite low compared to the grey/silver and blackfaced early units...

Best
