The Sytek MPX-4Aii 4-channel preamp?
« on: January 23, 2005, 09:30:48 am »

How good are these? Mainly to use with Beyer m160 ribbons,
sm57, sm7, md421, etc. Looking for a clean, basic pre for a budget
with enough gain for the m160s.

How does the Sytek compare to FMR rnp? I use Soundcraft
FX16's pres on a daily basis. Do you think the Sytek is a step
upwards or not? How are the pres on new Mackie Onyx series?
Anything else I should consider? Thanks for your help!

I have a friend that just bought the Sytek.  He hasn't used it much yet, but he likes it just as much as his Amek 9098 pres, if that tells you anything.  I'm probably going to test it out soon for myself.

I had a Sytek for a while and really liked it quite a bit.  It is a great value and was a big step up from the Symmetrix 202 I had been using.  I sold the Sytek when I got a GML 8304.

I would recommend the Sytek highly, certainly above any of the Mackie pres I have heard.  I  haven't heard the RNP, which is probably the only thing in that general price range which might be as good.

I've got a Sytek.
It's pretty clean.  Headroom is a bit limited.
It's not the "Holy grail" of preamp, but it is useful.
I do think it was worth the price of admission.

I use it on overheads and the pre's are clean and not washy which helps the cymbals shine. I have used it on guitars as well, but have to agree that it runs out of headroom really quick.

I will keep mine even after we upgrade our pre's
