Needed, video card for another system.
« on: January 04, 2005, 02:51:13 PM »

Here's the deal.

I have a rack computer that I want to put into action for dubbing VHS tapes to hard drive. This is NOT to be for broadcast quality, simply for archival purposes. This will be the only duty for this box, taking video to hard drive.

I do not want anything fancy here, cheap is the word..I mean, 50 dollars type cheap.

What I needs is a card that will:

Input regular video from an RCA out of a VCR.
Output to a TV monitor.

That is all.

Who has the solution cheap?

Again...cheap cheap! Quality is not an issue, just old tapes for archival purposes.

How about this to start with, Bill?

A few more dollars than your ideal, but it's had some good reviews and the Plextor name caught my attention. I may get one to archive my Hi-8 home movies.

Nigel, thank you.

I will look totally into that.

BTW, I have some MONO LP's of Herb Alpert and the Tijuana brass that I decided to cut to hard drive.

What a wake up call to all who has not hear this quality. I strive to stay there and must be reminded at times.

I have a very high end phono reproduction platform, all 600lbs of it.

Be happy to share in email as a favor.

You need a video to firewire box. Basically though, they're all priced so close to that of a cheap camera you might as well get a cheap digital video camera and use that as your converter.

Here is an announcement of a new box, though, that might be cheaper:

Here's one that's $339. I doubt you can get below that retail:

As I said, most people just use a digital camera as their I/O box.

Thanks Bob. I am dubbing regular VHS tapes and beta SP archives.

I appreciate the response.
