Radial Tech's Switchbone.
« on: January 06, 2005, 02:58:08 PM »

Just looking for some feedback on Radial Technologies
Switchbone. Anybody out there use it, if so, your comments.

Is it transparent ?

Does it degrade the sound if you pass thru it using 2 amps at once.

Thanks for your time.

It can be transparent if you want it to be. It's not my favorite, but it's pretty decent.

If you use two amps it should be fine, unless they are shitty amps.

Is it just for splitting or for switching too? If it's just for splitting it's a totally different ballgame.

Just for splitting. Dont need the switching feature. Basically want to just record from 2 sources simaltaniously. I was concerned about any sort of loss to sound quality while doing so.

Thanks

The little Labs PCP inst distro is my favorite but is not as cost effective for simply splitting. I have an active transformer isolated splitter here at the shop that was heavily modded. The pedal and switches are all that's left.

Haven't tried it, but if it's close to the PCP in throughput, it's worth having. Please regard my response as hearsay, Fletcher?

The Little Labs STD has two outputs (second is liftable) and was meant to drive one amplifier and one D.I. for tracking dry and later reamping! So yes it will work as a splitter and drive two amplifiers simultaneously. It will also do this which is reason enough to buy three!

I have and use the switchbone.  I really like it.  It has the iso 2nd out with G lift and phase reverse.  Both are very useful.  It also has a "drag" control which controls the impedence load on the pickup of the guitar so that the guitar still thinks it is pluged into one amp.  I didnt hear any change in sound by having this box inline.  The intended use is for stage but it is the same tech as their JX7 unit which is for recording multiple amps.  The JX7 cost more but has 7 outputs and a few more options.
