Song lenght readouts with different softwares/players
« on: December 12, 2004, 03:04:21 pm »

Hi,
I generally burn my masters with Toast 5.1.2 and MAsterlist 2.1.
I have just started using Nero 6 Pro.
However, song lenght is never the same. So, why does this happen?
I have seen differences up to two seconds from player to player and softwares.
Yes, no sample rate errors.
In which can we really trust?
Thanks

The time differences you notice are CD player dependent. Many players these days ignore the track pause (when there is one) and calculate the track time to the next track start index instead of the track end index. Don't worry about missing samples or anything like that, the audio is exactly the same.

Thanks. In fact when I am filling the ISRC sheets I do need to put the most accurate  song lenght that is possible.

Of course they would not reject or create problems because of a few +/- frames when registering the song, but my clients keep asking me that.

use the PQ list for track times

If you are supplying track times to clients then you should get the real track time from the PQ list. I wouldn't wing it with what you see on a CD player. If your 4:59 track is actually 5:01, Harry Fox may come knocking on your door for a bigger piece of the pie. Plus you might have an angry client when the printing on all 1 gazillion CD's isn't correct...
