What the hell is wrong with people?  Mad You've got brawls at basketball games, parents fighting at school sporting events, and now you've even got stars fighting at award shows?!

How did we get to this place and how do we get out?!!? This is madness!

Its freaky - at the same time I am surprised something like this didn't happen before (loony with a gun shooting a band)...

I guess we'll find out if it was a random madman, assassin or someone with a grudge in due course..

Those poor guys!

From what I've read, the gunman killed them because he felt that dimebag darrel and his brother Vinnie Paul (the guitarist and drummer, respectively) were at fault for Pantera's break up.  It's sad that it happened, period.  However, it's a hell of a coincidence that it happened on the same day as John Lennon's assassination.

as an central Ohioan who knows that club and it's patrons I feel like I know a little about the mindset of this type of person, and i'd say it's more a sign of the times shooting, then a John Lennon type shooting.

i attribute this specific act to a political and entertainment climate where disagreements are handled with violence.

and violence begets violence

Well, if record companies continue to favour gangster rap, 10th generation death metal and generally lower the cultural level down to violent street-level insensibility as much as they possibly can, it's no surprise.

from a band I produce who has played that club, I've been told that the bouncers have metal detection wands, so how that guy got in with a gun is strange.

Wow, scary! I wonder if some nut case will start to attack the label execs or the radio station execs for putting or not putting certain products out or giving or not giving certain products airtime.

Plenty of label execs have been attacked by nut-cases.

Somebody once figured out that, over the course of their life, the average person will know around 500 people well enough they can be expected to show up at that person's funeral. Of all the people each of us knows, there are almost always one or two nut-cases we'd just as soon avoid.

The problem of being a star is that instead of 500 people, it's millions with a proportional increase in the number of nut-cases.

You can bet after this a lot of things will change with live shows - probably some bands will start placing extended security requests in their riders & so on..

Security is always a concern, even on the web. Public exposure is chancy. It is a sad shame.

<sarcasm> Thank God the NRA is out there protecting the Second Amendment rights of all Americans to bear arms.</sarcasm>

It is in situations such as these where one can see the true value of easy and inexpensive access to concealed firearms.

Cheers,

Alan Tomlinson

P.S. Yup, like so many things, the previous comment has political overtones.
