Please Support My Constitutional Amendment to Protect Marriage!
« on: November 09, 2004, 05:02:06 pm »

I've come up with a constitutional amendment that I think would be extremely beneficial to our nation, and I ask for your support.

In recent discussions regarding same sex marriage it was pointed out to me that the State does indeed have compelling secular interests in regulating marriage.   I had mistakenly thought that religious fundamentalists were trying to impose their bigotry.  Now I learn that the primary argument is in fact the promotion and protection of procreation!   Since homosexuals are unable to procreate on their own, and same sex marriage would place extra financial burden on the state in the form of Social Security benefits and the like, it is perfectly within the State's right to prohibit them from marrying.

Here is an excellent link that explains the secular rationale behind outlawing gay marriage.   http://www-tech.mit.edu/V124/N5/kolasinski.5c.html .   These are all great arguments, however, I did find one critical flaw.   The writer points out that it would simply be too much of a burden on the state to try and weed out infertile couples, since fertility tests are expensive and most people are unaware that they are infertile.  I agree.  But,  he also argues that elderly marriage is so rare that it too would not be worth the effort to restrict.   And this is where I find the flaw!

The State does have a vested interest in restricting marriage between the elderly -  specifically that of elderly women!   While men are able to father healthy children throughout their entire lives, women have limited reproductive lives.   And after menopause they are effectively useless with respect to procreation.   Beyond this, the marriage of older women places a large financial burden on the State and on business.   Postmenopausal women accrue their husbands Social Security and pension benefits without providing any benefit to the State in the way of bearing children.   Letting them marry is simply a liability to society.

Unlike weeding out infertile young couples, it would be absolutely no extra effort to prohibit postmenopausal women from marrying, since we already require proof of age to obtain a marriage license.  The State will benefit and save money with no extra burden! We could limit the marriage age for women to below 50 years.  The vast majority of women above 50 are postmenopausal.   And those who are not place another potentially large burden on society if they choose to have children, because their rates of genetic and congenital defects are very high - even much higher than that of close relatives bearing children.   And we already restrict marriage between close relatives on this basis.

So, considering all these facts, I conclude that the people of the United States have a vested interest, even a moral obligation, to restrict older women from marrying.  And  from the lessons learned in the fight against same sex marriage, it is pretty clear that it's simply not enough to pass legislation.   The courts will ultimately strike down these laws on the basis of equal protection and other constitutional grounds.  So, we need to go directly to the source and pass an amendment to the U.S. Constitution, if we hope to reap these great benefits to society.   Therefore, I have drafted this simple, concise, and unquestionably beneficial amendment:

The State, having a vested interest in the promotion and protection of procreation, limits the age of marriage for women to those older than 16 years and younger than 50 years.

I ask all of you with high moral values to rally behind me in my effort to pass this critical amendment!    Thank you for your support!

Here is the traditional definition of marriage:

http://dictionary.reference.com/search?q=marriage

How should we reword this to make it work for those who have a different point of view.

I'm all ears.

Hey Bro,

We don't have to change a word of it....like books on steam engine repair the definition is outside the scope of our current endeavors...I don't really understand the whole issue nor do I want to....but if there are injustices like ...Sam can't see his boyfriend in the hospital or Jane has no legal rights after being a loving partner to Susan for 35 years.....somethings wrong....right....

Love ya....

Butt, not you know....the Hershey Highway type of love....

I mean like a cool salutational type of affection....like...

Peace....but that was taken....

Maybe I could change it to ....

Love yas...(not said from over your left shoulder)

Sincerely,

P.S.

Aren't these people in Ohio (you know the ones that stole the election)

Aren't they just trying to protect themselves by passing edicts against their children being carted off wholesale by the ravenous queer hordes?

You can see their point can't you.....

Life is bad enough with all these liberals running around and now they want to pull marriage down into their iniquitous (is that a word?) world of sodomy....

You see gay marriage to me seems to be a very human issue and the points made by Brian Middleton on the other thread are at the heart of it....

The people that want to stop this....a lot of them are humanists....calling them assholes and shouting them down only prolongs the process of understanding...they look at the loud mouths who happen to be against everything else they stand for and take their dissent to the polls....they are not your enemy they are you neighbors....

Attention Leftys!!!!

Restraint
Refine
Discover
Engage.....

lemme nough

Love yas (not said in a muffle voice from under the comforter)

A learned member of another forum directed me to that article.   And my constitutional amendment is certainly not a parody.  The Right has asked us on the Left to accept the election mandate and get with the program.   If I'm to do so, I need to ensure that what I'm supporting is consistent.    The learned people on the Right say that their opposition to same sex marriage doesn't spring from bigotry and hatred of gay people, but rather an honest effort to protect our nation's reproductive health and avoid the burden of extra government beneficiaries.  I would never doubt their sincerity.  And like I said, this is a great argument, but they have overlooked an even larger problem in this regard -  the big problem of dried up old women marrying virile men, then collecting their Social Security benefits after they die.  Looking at the demographics, this is surly a far greater burned on our economy than gay marriage, and it must be eradicated.

My amendment rids us of this socially parasitic practice.   Furthermore,  it sends a positive message to older men that their natural inclination to desire young, firm, and fertile women is exactly how God and Country intended it - and they shouldn't waste their time and our nation's resources on useless old hags.

You mean the way Bush has treated the world?  Or the way he has lead with his treatment of dissenters of his policies?

With restraint, refined thinking, discovery and engagement?

When did it become the Left's responsibility to set the tone with civility?  Or to coddle the Right; its greed and bigotry and intolerance and dogmatism?  Those things oppose our Values, they oppose American values, and we're saying so.  Bush's treatment of dissent opposes our Values and we're saying so.

And when did the elecion going for Bush become a referrendum AGAINST Kerry and liberals who are talking "smarter"?

Is it the fault of the secure that the insecure are reacting?

Is it the fault of the tolerant and Values laden left that they are not dogmatic Bible thumpers with less creativity of thought than a dog trying not to pee in the house and no respect for science and freedom for women?

You, like many on the Right, seem to be able to twist any topic for advantage.

We on the left are working to promote Freedom (not just say we are promoting it as a justification for things) and we are working for Justice, Fairness and a host of other values that are impossible ... yet worth the fight.

The Right has stated the fact that these values are impossible to achieve, so we should not bother working for them.

TIKs sig line is par for that course ... if we do not try for high ideals, we can instead take solace and make power from lower ones that have nice clean edges and happy endings for the faithful.

If smart bombs only killed dumb people, we wouldn't have this problem.

IMO Constitutional Amendments should be warranted, well thought out and shouldn't be discriminatory, this one doesn't pass any of those things. It was merely a prop to get zealots out to vote W and secondly to show America that W has no faith in the Supreme Court to do the right thing. "This issue is too big to leave in the hands of twelve judges to decide."-W

Go figure, they're the same 12 "group of folks" that got him his first election.

Libertarian, gun toting, open minded, pissed off Southern Blue County American that had to vote democrat this past go around out.

Well, if your plan is to promote and protect procreation, why not let lesbians marry?  They can get pregnant from the same traditional sources that straight couples use.  Also, with all the orphans around, why not let gay men in stable loving relationships get married and adopt them?  In fact, gay marriage would be great for this.  They can't increase the overpopulation problem with rampant reproduction, but they can offer stable loving homes for children who would otherwise get bounced from one orphanage to the other.

Cool now I'm on the right!

Finally I can get my group think on!

Thanx by the way for the compliment....

Now let's twist again...like we did last election.....

That is four posts where you are baggin on my sig....

Dude!

It's a joke....

It is sarcasm....

If it were serious it would be an ironic call to arms for those who do not try...to somehow start coping and move out smartly....

Scientifically it could just mean a lack of immediate kinetic energy....

And Philosophically it could be "I do not act therefore I am not my brother's keeper....is a penny earned....

By the way if I write a post like I did above in favor of gay marriage am I still on right....is that twisting things???

Your very straight yet understanding....friend at the edge of the West....

Thanks for the great suggestion, but you know, I'm more into the personal grass roots approach.  I love to mingle with the people.   I figure I'll drum up a ton of support by meeting folks as they let out of church on Sundays.  I'm even brushing up on my 'tongues', so I can really get down and rap with the Pentecostals.

Yeah, I've seen that letter to Dr. Laura.  It's a shame she never replied, because these are the same kinds of issues I find myself wresting with every day.   Maybe she's just waiting to address them in her next book?

The Armed Forces Radio Service in Germany broadcasts an hour of Rush Limbaugh and then 40 excruciating minutes of Laura the porn model (she did nudie pics when she was young) and the rest of the time it's commie NPR....I mean you get both sides but in the end you get fukken nothing....if you read what some people write on this forum it is pretty fukken well thought out....but you can't tune it in on any radio....So you get Air America or WABC in New York on the internet.....which makes me want to puke....the basic theme is..

Adopt a mindset

Mindlessly mumble the dogma

Shout everyone down that disagrees with you

Ridicule them personally

Don't follow your own dogma

Run your fukken mouth but don't back it up...

like all the losers on WABC wave the fukken flag and say how wonderful our boyz have never been in uniform or the Air America Hollywood types fukken commie airbags hoping someone else will do the heavy lifting...

They fukken suck...

Back to work...

Thank you for posting, I am sure I am not the only benefactor of this forum....

Time to turn the music up....Love Ya's
