Wireless Tracking Headphones
« on: November 29, 2004, 12:15:40 PM »

Hi.
I'm looking for about 4 pairs of "closed back" wireless headphones to be used for
tracking, but not critical listening. Right now we use Fostex T40RP's
and Sony MDR-7506's, and one or the other seems to work fine for most
folks..........except for one thing, the damn cords everywhere. My
studio is small and it seems like after 6 hours of recording & moving
stuff from one side of the main room to the other it's total
spaghetti. Is anyone manufacturing a decent pair of wireless cans?
Rechargeable would be a huge plus.

Many thanks.........

You might check the Sennheiser and Audio Technica websites, but I don't know for sure if they make anything that will work for you.

You might consider putting in an Oz system, or moving a multi-headphone amp in with the musicians. The Furman HSC6 is what we use in the big studio and we use the Oz in the little studio.

You might consider a wireless in-ear monitor system.  The bodypacks have an 1/8" jack that any earphone or headphone could connect to.

We use them at our facility in almost every application.  We use the PSM600 from Shure but there are others depending on your requirements and budget (Sennheiser, Samson, Nady, even Carvin).

We prefer the talent use the isolating earbuds (keeps headphone bleed off the overhead mics, etc.) but some choose 7506s, T-10/20s and/or their own pair of cans.

The talent (especially the producers) really like not being tied down to a cable.

$0.02,

From a previous post:

Wireless Sony MDR 7506 with Sony FM walkman receivers. The receivers have belt clips so artists can walk around. The FM stereo transmitter input is fed from a console headphone out. The system response is good and pretty flat out to 15k. Clients like to go out into their Escalades and listen to their mixes. B.F.D.
