Need some opinions on this mastering.....
« on: November 02, 2004, 03:53:09 PM »

ive just been thinking about trying some other mastering places thats all, or maybe my mixing just needs to get better, I dunno..

Thanks in advance

Looking at the "unmastered version", you have clipping happening on it to begin with. Look at 01:41.565 to 01:41.587.

This clipped first beat tells me you are using compression on the 2buss which is squeezing the life out of the track.

Take the 2buss compressor off of the mix and re eq your 2mix to get your clarity back.

Then you will have something that will have a better "shot" at mastering.

I did a "search, destroy, repair, and help" quicky mastering pass on the unmastered version but I would like to see it go down to 2mix print "cleaner" myself.

Do a revisit and then you can have a better sounding track. To make this track "what it could be" requires more work. Your mastered version was unacceptible to me.

This is a screenshot of the utter clippage of your mastered version......

thanks for the advise, the only problem is I cant redo the mix as ive deleted some of the files by accident  Embarassed

yeah I noticed that first beat, I think that was becasue the compressor ive got on the buss didnt react quick enough, and yeah it is compresing a lot..

so I suppose its a combination of better mixing needed + better mastering as well. Maybe I should get my friend to master it again, but tell him to go easy. Ive always wondered what a track of mine would sound like mastered through high end analogue gear rarther then the TC Finalizer, or maybe the new MD3 for the powercore. I dunno, always question marks running around my head, what if??

Thanks for your time mate.

PM Me with your email address if you can hold a 10 meg file..or I can make it shorter via bit rate reduction and you can compare with what I did.

The price is right...Free.
