need owens corning, where do I get it?
« on: October 30, 2004, 12:07:57 PM »

I have looked on the internet and can't find a dealer in my area. I would prefer to pick it up. I am in L.A. I want the large panels 2" thickness. What type, 700? Where should I go to get it ? How much should it cost?

2" thickness is 705. Call around to your local industrial HVAC people, they'll have OC (or some other brand that's the same thing)...

I've been using this Johns Manville products:

Seems to work just as well as the OC at about 1/3 the price....

Not to be an ass, but did anyone else notice that some of this stuff's called "Insultone"?  Not really what i'd be looking for in an acoustic solution.
Very Happy
But really, which one of the listed products on the linked page is the one you're refering to, Trev?  That's a healthy chunk less $ than OC, especially if you need a lot of it.   Can you elaborate on your experiences?

You call the Home Depot contractor desk and order it.  It comes in boxes of 10 sheets.  Be sure to be clear on the number of boxes, not the number of sheets.

Thankfully they wrote it down correctly on the special order - when I got to the store, they had two pallets waiting for me!  Slightly overkill!

lol... you're not being an ass at all... sorry, I was meaning to point out which one it was on that page but I was distracted while posting... please forgive.

The stuff I've been using is the Spinglass 1000, in the 3# density, most of the time I get the 1" stuff... although i've used a bit of the 2" as well.

8 sheets of 1"x48"x96" runs me about $120.00 at my supplier...

Nate, same thing happened to me with Home Depot!

I ordered a box of 25, since that's the way it comes.  When they "went to the back" to get my order, I was confused that it was taking  them 20-30 minutes to get my order.  I thought they forgot and someone went on lunch break or something.

Then they come out with this huge forklift with a load of an almost unimaginable size.  I'm still standing there, wondering when my order will be processed.  Then somebody says something like "Don't you want to sign for your order?".  I'm like "Sure, where is it?"  Then they pointed to the forklift.

I think they ordered 25 boxes!  The lady at the desk was telling me "Oh, just take the whole order, they messed up".  I had to tell her that one box was plenty.  I know if I took the whole 25 boxes, somebody in the supply chain would be on the frying pan once they figured out their mistake.

Could have pimped it for some gear, though!

I found a supplier in L.A.   Pacific Insulation: 323-278-8350
A bundle of 9 Sheets of 2'X4'X 2" spin-glas is $112.00. That is the size I was going to cut it to, so that halps. No cutting needed. They have plenty in stock. No waiting for an order. Thanks for all your help!
