I worked a Van Halen show several years back and the stage was full of 5150's. No sound came out of them. Behind the 5150's was a mic'd to death Marshall 4x12 and head. Couldn't get close enough to tell what model.

LOL! Classic!

The reference to the 5150 was "gain" not tone. I see several here made the correlation. Ralph says this thing is dead silent with gobs and gobs and gobs of gain.

I am thinking it could be a true "new level".

Love to see him let a few of you try one.

I'm a little fuzzy on the ciruit topology, but hmmmm...

How about running it balanced all the way back to the humbuckers? Now that would be something.

I would not put it past him....

The Evolution One is not only the first OTL guitar amplifier, it is also the first fully differential and balanced all tube guitar amplifier. Balanced circuitry allows for much lower noise; so much quieter that while the Evolution One has as much gain as two Marshall amplifiers in series, it remains quiet! There is plenty of gain so that the serious heavy metal guitarist need look no further for the gain he needs, while at the same time for those who need 'clean', the Evolution One is a revelation beside conventional guitar amps.

that thing is hilarious... 70's scifi design rules! j, i just got myself a traynor mark III combo that i'm running along with half a 4x12 cab... the thing is sexy as hell. our other guitarist just got a fender twin reverb ri and personally i'm liking the traynor more... especially considering it cost me several hundred less with new tubes and caps (not to mention ptp wiring... god bless old technology... so fixable.)

i play a traynor PA head.  it's 50 watt all tube with four discrete inputs.  sounds a bit like a marshall plexi

for what my band plays it's just awesome!

I agree, I would have least done it a shade more pretty..but this thing is supposed to kick some major ass and for 3800, it better.

Looks like a Shure vocal master era cab.!

The introduction to hi gain, hi fidelity, distortion..in a 68 deco package.

Might catch on, might not.

I am going to ask Ralph for a test unit. He will shit when I tell him I am going to hit it with a 65 Fender jazz bass...and it hopefully will not come apart.

(All killer guitar amps can deal with the bass plugged in for a short time)

Got a Parker to try on it as well. I forgot to check if it is stereo for the Parker.. Shocked

Mo text.....

It does not stop there. The Evolution One also features a unique speaker array (available with many options) that allows for the most consistent sustain of any guitar amplifier in existance. More on the Evolution One will soon be available on the 'Musical Instruments' section of this website.

it's no secret

the circuit is stupid simple

and the prices of these old gems has been going up and up in the past year.

BTW,
for 3800 bucks, i can get an awesome top hat combo, or a matchless combo, or a bogner combo....and have money left over to have a flight case built for it.

a parker????????????

put my 72 tele thinline modified with P-90's through that amp. that guitar makes any amp do at least something cool.

Yep, I don't know why Ralph chose the design of that case like he did. It is not something I would have expected.

I am in total agreement with everyone on the looks. It has to make up for it in sound..and only 50 watts to boot..

Hell, I liked the sound of a MIG-50 through a sunn cabinet myself.

He will have to give those things away before you see them popping up on stages IMO.

haha it's true that people in the know have heard about them but it's so rediculous having to explain to people what it is. although usually when they hear it, they have nothing negative to say.  Very Happy

how is that working out for you? i have a 72' thinline ri but right now i just have the humbuckers in it... would you recommend putting p-90's in it? i'd imagine it'd brighten up the tone quite a bit...

i never played the stock humbuckers in mine, i replaced them as soon as i bought the guitar as every stock fender pickup i've ever played has SUCKED big time....

so i can't say what it will do sonically in that situation.

P-90's have big round smooth distortion sounds, and really nice clean tones

it's GIANT single coil pickup, so they tend to be noisier...

if you like your tone, stick with it.....i've recorded many les pauls with P-90's in them and i knew i wanted that tone filtered through my thinline.....it's pretty awesome.

keep in mind that the secret club plays heavily distorted most of the time....we're each playing half stacks, one traynor, and one musicman.....so we are super loud!!!

i probably won't be playing any other pickup anytime soon

my back up guitar is a tele with soap bar P-90's in it......
