How to Open the M49v to Access S4 Switch
« on: July 27, 2024, 11:29:11 PM »

On an M49v, how do you take off the head basket and body to access the S4 switch? Does it unscrew?
I don't have the mic in hand as yet, but when it arrives I want to compare the settings.

Any other caveats or tips? Thanks, in advance.

With a 2-2.5mm blade screwdriver, gently screw IN three housing screws until you feel a stop

Remove the housing which includes the head basket by rotating it back and forth as you lift it up

Two red miniature switches on the green side board of the mic amp will now be visible, one positioned vertically, the other horizontally

Move the left, vertical, switch UP, to make the amp response linear, removing the low end cut

Reassemble in reverse

One more question: I know the U67RI can use the vintage U67 cables, and that the new cable for both the U67RI and the M49v are similar... so, could I use a vintage U67 cable on a new M49v? -Thanks in advance.

No, you could not.
For one, the pinouts are different; for another, the key that lines up the connector with its mate is offset on the U67, so it would not even work mechanically.

Will an M269 cable (ends pictured) work on an M49v?

The reason I am looking is I have the U67RI and the cable drives me nuts. Tangle monster. Sounds fine, but if possible for the 49v, I'd like something more robust. Any other suggestions would be appreciated.

Yes, any cable for any M2xx mic, including the M269 cable you show, will work, be correctly terminated and produce the right voltages.

Appreciate the help. Thanks. I bought that cable. NOS. Still has a Neumann hang tag.
Cheers.
