this should be a great place to finally start figuring out how you guys build all those wonderful toys.

If using the toys is fun, designing and building them is also fun. How to do it? That can be a long story: It starts with some coffee in the morning… We can talk about specific areas.  

Lets not forget the why to do it - my personal preference is to go for transparency.

that's what makes my head spin.

learning a bit of what you guys do (from the design phase) has always interested me.

where does a design go from "on paper looking good" to trial and error "let's get it sounding just right", component swapping?

did that make ANY sense at all?
