optimal metal to metal connection
« on: September 23, 2004, 08:19:22 PM »

Ok.  I know this may strike some as hokum but I am gonna ask anyway.
Do people hear a difference in the metal used in "b" 1/4" patchbay connectors when mated to a brass bay. Nickel or brass, gold plating?
Any particular connector that folks feels sounds one way or another. I am planning on using mogami 2893 for the cables. I have been leaning towards the neutrik connector line because well they are the neutrik. Take me to school, folks.

As a general rule, brass-to-brass connections have lots of oxidation problems over time.  I've gravitated to nickle connectors on the patch cords simply because of less intermittent grunge.

I'm certain there's some "area 54" thinkers <g> who would argue against the mixed metals, but in the big picture, I believe it's better not to have a patch connection go "fzzzt" in the middle of a take!
