U87i mystery pin
« on: October 19, 2022, 02:17:26 PM »

Hello.

Looking inside this mic I found this pin soldered to the PCB, but the pad it is soldered to doesn't go anywhere. Does anyone know what this is? Seems very strange.

The second picture shows the hole in the head where the bent-over pin should be inserted back into (after straightening it).
It is an anti-static connection between amp board and head assembly. It also centers and aligns the board with the head assembly.

It is not super critical, as you will not find it in the U87Ai successor model, but it's always nice to keep things original...

Ok, so not very strange, after all.  :) Thank you, Klaus.
