iPhone Mics: What are they? How are they processed?
« on: February 01, 2022, 05:45:53 PM »

I'm often struck by the high quality of the current iPhone mics.
I use my phone  and the VoiceMemo app to record off the cuff music lyrics, chord progressions etc.

Recordings of single instruments sound good...voices too...listening to myself, my voice, talking out the chords in a progression through my earbuds when walking...and am constantly thinking: this doesn't sound bad at all...remarkable 'for what it is'.

MEMS mic?

My question is, Do these exist in the real big microphone world as professional level mics? Are they basically a condenser/capacitor mic? an technical offshoot modded to be tiny?

Of course, they sound like an omni..I have some EarthWorks..a few others. Are EarthWorks technically a MEMS?

Anyone here who has gone deep on learning about these built-in mics and the circuitry/processing around them?
