Vintage AKG C12 Windscreens
« on: January 28, 2021, 11:36:01 AM »

The vintage C12 windscreens have two additional
layers of mesh inside.

It appears that the outer layer, the one closest to the exterior (but NOT the exterior), would have had some kind of felt or foam glued to the mesh.

Does anyone know:

1: what the material was? my guess is some sort of felt.

2: it seems it was probably sandwiched in between the two internal mesh layers from what I am dealing with for cleanup. Has anyone seen one in new enough condition to more accurately tell?

3: Did the metal piece that tightens it around the mic body ever have anything to protect the mic finish? A thin piece of electrical tape on the very edge of each of the three points that make contact, seemed to be a quick way to prevent any scraping while maintaining metal contact over the rest of the area where the ring and body tube meet. Seems like something I would almost expect thin glued cork on back in then old days.

Any other info is appreciated as well.
