Phaedrus Audio VF14 emulation
« on: September 03, 2017, 12:16:27 PM »

I've seen no discussion of this here yet

http://www.phaedrus-audio.com/VF14M%20Phaedrus%20electronic%20tube.htm

Added later: My bad, didn't realize this is the Grove Hill thing. It's already been discussed to death, it seems. I just got VF14 fever, pls forgive me....

Hi, I didn't see it 'discussed to death' here. Am I missing a party elsewhere?
As it happens, I quite like it, provided it is the same as the Grove Hill device. I still like my particular VF14 more for some vocals, however. It 'compresses' slightly different and there's some more detail in the 'depth' still. Besides that, for overheads or rooms on percussion etc. I don't fell the difference is that important to me (To make things perfectly clear: there is a difference - it's a couple of dB hotter to start with etc.).
If I could get my particular VF14 cloned, now that would be something!

There was extensive discussion of this tube and its original supplier/marketer on Gearslutz.
The misrepresentation of the original VF14's qualities and quantities by the manufacturer on this thread and in promotional literature was considerable enough that he buried his product's chances for success as a VF14 alternative.

Human beings have a well-developed sense for being duped. In this case it did not take all that much effort or facts to reveal the tactic.
