Opticom XLA500 hard to dial in

Hey all,
Anyone else have any experience with the Opticom XLA500? I picked one up recently and I'm finding it hard to dial in. The ratio knob is labelled from 0 to 10 but it's super finicky - at 0.5 it's not compressing at all and by the time it gets to 1 I'm getting like 10db of compression. It makes it extremely hard to dial in compression on a vocal for example. God only knows why it goes up to 10.
