Authenticating K47 capsule

Hi Klaus,

here Alfredo from Spain asking for help again..

I have been offered a Telefunken u47 that seems to have original valve and transformer but i can not determine if the capsule is an original k47 or aftermarket one.

any help really appreciated..thanks!

Hello Alfredo,
Thanks for contacting this forum.

Your capsule is neither original nor aftermarket, but Neumann's official, authentic, third generation K49 (ca. 1966), which was installed by Neumann whenever the original M7 PVC capsule in U47/48 would fail. The capsule mounting hardware was also changed whenever K49 were installed in M7-equipped U47, because the K47 is slightly bigger in diameter.


P.S.: I am a great fan of the fiberboard version K47 as shown. It has lots of sex appeal, sometimes more so than subsequent K47 versions.
