DDP Issue
« on: October 29, 2015, 03:25:13 PM »

Just an FYI.

I had a DDP get rejected recently from a duplicator that I've not used before.  After some head scratching, I discovered the issue was with the folder icon, which I put my logo onto.  Macs know how to deal with it, but they were using a Windows file server and it chocked on it.

I've discontinued using the folder icons now.

I had a somewhat similar problem with folders transferred from a MAC to a PC. Some names of the folders were changed but the names of the files in the folders were not. I wish that Macintosh and PCs would use the same file naming conventions. We are a facility with both MACs and PCs and sometimes it is maddening when they won't work together. Another big area is the types of files they will open. MACs don't like NTFS and refuse to open a drive that is formatted with NTFS. We have now standardized on exFAT for all our external drives.

interesting issue with folder icons.  i use them on the folder i put DDP's into and .wav references on client's FDDs.  i don't use the icon on the ddp that i've zipped.

i did have an issue with the mac-pc issue.  the artist name had an asterisk (*) in their name.  mac handles that fine, but pc not so much.  so the folder name of the artist inside the zip file created an illegal file on pc.  it took forever and then eventually failed.  unzips fine on mac.  so i removed the special character and re-zipped them and they worked fine on the PC.

for reference PC (NTFS) illegal characters are:
/ ? < > \ : * | " and any character you can type with the Ctrl key

FAT also adds ^ to the above

MAC OSX only illegal character for folders and files is the colon (:)
